We’ve known for a while that Xiaomi will open a Mi Home store in Kenya, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa. The store was initially scheduled to open in Q1 2019, but this didn’t materialize for whatever reasons.
A few days ago, Xiaomi Kenya revealed a new date for the grand opening of the Mi Home store, pushing it back to May 2019. From the look of things, it seems this date will materialize this time round, with the company already listing some of the products it will be selling through the store.
We already know the kind of products to expect in the Mi Home store. The company has plenty of these in markets like India and China and basically, they all stock Xiaomi products that include smartphones and their accessories, Smart TVs as well as Smart Home accessories.

Well, if you thought Xiaomi only deals with smartphones, there’s your shocker. The truth is, in the Mi Home store, you should be able to find a crazy amount of Xiaomi products because the company has an equally crazy inventory of affordable products that it already sells in other countries.
One huge product that is conspicuously missing from the list above is the Mi TV. I hope it’s not by design but just another random mistake because the company has some great Android TVs out there that could definitely cause a stir in the local market if priced right.
Just to give you a better picture, one of the most affordable Mi TV 4C Pro 32-inch models currently goes for INR 12,999 (down from INR 14,999) in India. This is about Sh 19,000 and for this amount, you are getting a full Android TV experience, an HD screen with a 178-degree viewing angle, a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 support, 2 USB ports, 3 HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, 3.5mm audio port, and so on.
Heck, you even get Google Assistant support, which can easily be triggered by a simple press of a button on the provided remote. With the full support for Android TV, you are also promised things like the Google Play Store and Google Chromecast.
Once again, all these can be had at an equivalent of Sh 19K in India. But of course, if the Mi TV 4C Pro ever makes it to Kenya, we’d end up paying slightly more than this price, although it would still smash the competition by far.
Here’s to hoping someone is reading this.
