There have been many complaints from users of various Tecno smartphones about a pop-up on the screen that says, “OTG connected, Go To Settings to turn OTG on” when no USB device/cable is connected to the phones.
While the root cause of this bug is still unclear, a Tecno Spot member has seemingly found an unofficial cause and solution to the problem.
Apparently, the problem is with the charging port. Either it got wet or moisture accumulated in there with time. We’d advise that you visit a Tecno Service Center (Carlcare) for them to have a look at it, but going by the responses in Tecno forum, you can as well do it yourself.
Note that by going this route, it’s at your own risk, but if you don’t have the time to visit Tecno Carlcare for a fix to this annoying pop-up, follow the steps below:
- You’ll need to have methylated spirit. For men who shave, your favorite local kinyozi has some, if you don’t have it, but be sure to ask them for the undiluted version (yea, some do dilute it to increase the quantity). While at it, get a cotton earbud too.
- It’s likely that the charging port has accumulated dust over time. Simply blow it out with your mouth.
- Dip the cotton earbud in the methylated spirit and apply into the charging port. Scrub gently through the inside several times and then let the phone dry out in the sun for about 10 minutes.
Allegedly, the methylated spirit helps evaporate any moisture trapped within the charging port and in the process fixes the OTG Connected issue. It’s also good as a rust cleaner, just in case your device’s charging port is rusty.
As noted, the above process worked for the original poster and several others who went this route but don’t come for our necks in case it doesn’t work for you.
Thank you very much. It has really helped me on my Tecno spark 7
Really. But mine hasn’t stopped. It still keeps popping up.
Thanks it actually worked
Ok I’ll try this out
Thanks for the advice.I experimented with an alcohol based sanitizer and it worked for me.
Thank you so much for the wisdom. An ordinary earbud didn’t fit in the USB port (I have an Itel P38 Pro)so I improvised with a piece of thatch grass, methylated spirits and cotton.Since I restarted my phone, the message has not appeared again.I was just surprised by how much dirt there was in my earphone and usb ports!
Wow! This is very educative. I just tried for mine and it’s worked. Thanks
Thanks it worked yooh I was stressed
The pop up of the OTG on my Itel for just stoped then I followed the tep by step of cleaning with spirit mentholated one ,well done good idea,
Please did you open your phone or loose the bot before you can clean the charging port ????
