Xiaomi Mi Band 4 arrives in Kenya next week, August 10. We already knew this from a tweet Xiaomi Kenya made earlier this month regarding the opening of a new Xiaomi Mi Store in Nairobi’s CBD, but the company has now reiterated this by posting yet another teaser on Twitter.
According to Xiaomi Kenya, the Mi Band 4 will be available for purchase in the country beginning next week Saturday, which is when the CBD shop opens. Previously, Xiaomi Kenya had revealed that up to 2,000 units will be up for grabs, but until now, the most important detail – pricing – is still unknown to us. Of course, we can always speculate based on pricing in other markets.
In China, the base model of the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, which also happens to be the global variant, goes for CNY 169, which equates to about Kshs 2,600. In the UK, the same smart band goes for £34.99, which is about Kshs 4,500. From the look of things, the latter price seems realistic as far as Kenya is concerned, but Xiaomi Kenya hasn’t confirmed local pricing yet.

There is an NFC-based Mi Band 4 model that goes for CNY 229 (about Kshs 3,500) and an Avengers Limited Edition going for CNY 349, which is about Kshs 5,300. These two are unlikely to feature when the smart band arrives in Kenya next weekend.
Specs-wise, the standard Xiaomi Mi Band 4 ships with a 0.95-inch AMOLED display screen, the same size as the Mi Band 3. A 2.5D tempered glass protects the band while the screen resolution stands at 120×240 RGB.
The body of the band is 5ATM certified for water resistance, it supports Bluetooth 5.0, and packs a 135mAh battery that’s charged via a 2-Pin Pogo connector. The Mi Band 4 has a connected GPS tracker that uses your phone’s GPS to monitor pace and distance covered. This means that it doesn’t have an in-built GPS of its own, but you get a heart rate sensor.
Using the smart band, you can control music on your smartphone, check out notifications from any apps installed on your phone, and so on. The Mi Band 4 also supports multiple watch faces, DND mode, has a built-in weather app and alarm, and plenty of other features that should make it a great smartwatch alternative.
We wait for the official pricing.
