The Nokia 6.2 is finally available for purchase in the country.
The device, which was unveiled over 2 months ago in Berlin, Germany, during IFA 2019, follows its sibling the Nokia 7.2 into the local market.
Both devices were announced in the local market just a few days after the Berlin event with the Nokia 7.2 being the first to hit the market.
According to a statement from HMD Global, the Nokia 6.2 will be going for Kshs 26,500.
That is Kshs 7,500 cheaper than the Nokia 7.2 which started selling at Kshs 34,000 at various retail outlets.
Coming days after Huawei unveiled the Y9s and priced it at Kshs 32,000, HMD Global has set the stage for a fierce battle for customers as the holiday season kicks in.
The Nokia 6.2 is the first of the Nokia 6 series devices to feature a triple camera setup, just like the Nokia 7.2.
Like the 7.2, it also packs HMD Global’s proprietary PureDisplay technology and always-on HDR. In short, users of the device are meant to get the best-in-class treatment when interacting with the device’s 6.3-inch display, especially for things like consuming video content.
Design-wise, the device has Corning’s Gorilla Glass on both the front and the back to enhance its looks.
Buyers of the device get a free 3-months trial of Google One, Google’s subscription-based cloud storage service, for up to 100 gigabytes. The same offer was extended to buyers of the Nokia 7.2.
The Nokia 6.2 is also Android 10-ready. Even though both the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 weren’t included in the Android 10 update roadmap that HMD Global released back in August by virtue of not having been released at the time, we can expect both devices to get Android 10 not later than early next year.
Being an Android One device, Nokia 6.2 users are guaranteed monthly security updates for 3 years and at least another major operating system upgrade after Android 10.
For the developers and/or tinkerers among us, the Nokia 6.2’s bootloader can be unlocked using an easy-to-follow method. HMD Global has said that it will be issuing a fix via a software update soon. The said fix is yet to arrive so you can take advantage in the meantime if that’s your cup of coffee.
The device is only available in the Ceramic Black colour.
