Oppo has just launched the Reno 11 series in Kenya. But at Kshs 68,000 starting price, Kenyans will naturally have high expectations when it comes to aftersales support. While details were initially unclear, the device’s official Android Enterprise Recommended (AER) page has shed some light on the matter, albeit with a twist.
The good news: the Reno 11 and Reno 11 Pro are guaranteed a software update to Android 15. This will ensure users get the latest software features and security enhancements. Additionally, the series will receive security updates until February 2027, offering long-term protection against evolving threats. While this is nothing close to the 7 years of software support that Samsung has in store for the Galaxy S24 series, perhaps the gulf in pricing justifies the disparity with the Reno 11 series.
This information contradicts earlier reports from the Reno 11’s Indian launch, which promised 3 years of OS updates and 4 years of security updates. The AER page’s mention of only 3 years of total support suggests the Reno 11 and 11 Pro might have to settle for a maximum of 2 OS upgrades. Notably, Google’s AER page adds that security update information is provided by manufacturers and not verified by Google.

This discrepancy raises questions about Oppo’s commitment to software updates in different markets. Moreover, with premium pricing and high expectations, the lack of clarity around update frequencies for security patches further adds to the confusion.
While the Android 15 upgrade and 3 years of security support period are welcome, Oppo needs to address the conflicting information and provide potential buyers with a more transparent and consistent software update roadmap for the Reno 11 series. This will not only enhance trust with consumers but also ensure they know the true value proposition of their Kshs 68,000 investment.
