Three years after their global debut, Xiaomi has officially ended software support for the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 Pro Max handsets. These devices launched with MIUI 12 based on Android 11 and have received updates up to MIUI 14 based on Android 13. This update cycle aligns with Xiaomi’s policy of offering at least two major Android upgrades and MIUI updates for Redmi Note devices, although this could change with the latest Redmi Note 13 series in line for up to 4 years of software updates.
While some people hoped for a potential HyperOS update, this latest development essentially confirms that the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max will not receive further software updates. This includes regular security patches as well as the transition to the new Xiaomi skin, marking the end of the software journey for these once-popular devices. Owners who desire the latest features and optimizations offered by HyperOS will have to consider upgrading to newer Xiaomi smartphones. The recently launched Redmi Note 13 series is a good place to start the search for your next Redmi phone. While these newer phones ship with the existing MIUI 14, they are guaranteed to receive the update to HyperOS.
Xiaomi’s decision to end support for the Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 10 Pro Max highlights the reality of software lifecycles in the smartphone industry. While these devices have enjoyed a decent lifespan with significant updates, technology marches on, and older handsets eventually become incompatible with the latest software innovations.
For those still clinging onto their Redmi Note 10 Pro or Pro Max units but with the desire for the latest Android OS update and HyperOS features, maybe it’s about time to start exploring the possibilities offered by Xiaomi’s current generation of smartphones.
