Samsung’s Good Lock application has been around for a while and remains a darling of many a Samsung Gaalxy smartphone user, racking over 100 million downloads by the end of last year on Samsung’s own app store, the Galaxy Apps Store, where it has been available exclusively over the last 8 years.
Good Lock, for those not in the know, is a suite of modules that allow users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones (only) to tweak and customize their devices extensively.
It came about as a result of Samsung’s transitioning from the heavy and oft-criticized TouchWiz user interface to its new One UI. Instead of trying to add everything onto its custom take on Android, Samsung opted to offer users the basics and a few options while offering a wider selection to those who are interested through an app. That app is Good Lock. In itself, it is just an app that doesn’t offer much. However, it comes alive when one uses it to download “modules” (think of them as apps within an app) which are necessary for the extensive customization it allows.
Now, for Kenyans, the Good Lock app is news. This is because Kenya is still one of those markets where Samsung hasn’t availed it. A Kenyan Samsung Galaxy device user simply can’t head over to the Samsung app store on their phone and download and install it and get to play with the various modules on offer.
While we wait to see if that is changing soon, users elsewhere now have yet another avenue to access the app: the Google Play Store. Even better, some of the modules are reportedly also available on the Play Store.
The app is marked as being in “Early Access” on the Play Store and, should it ever become available in our market, the link below should take you right to its download page on the platform.
