Xiaomi ends global MIUI beta program

Avid Xiaomi fans know that MIUI has a separate China ROM for devices exclusive to the Chinese market and a global ROM for phones sold here in Kenya and other markets outside China.

For each of these two ROMs, Xiaomi has an ever-present MIUI beta program for testing new features being prepared ahead of pushing them to the respective stable MIUI versions. But beginning July 1, 2019, the global MIUI beta program will be no more. Going forward, Xiaomi devices running the global MIUI ROM will only receive stable updates.

In order to meet the demands of most of our users and release stable version updates more frequently, our team of engineers has decided to stop releasing the global version of MIUI Beta for all devices starting July 1, 2019.

Usually, the beta program receives weekly updates that hardly bring any major changes or improvements for that matter, something I’ve commented on before.

The ever-present Xiaomi MIUI beta program is pointless. All you get is bug fixes and optimizations with 99% of the weekly updates.

It’s great to see that Xiaomi did realize this too and hopefully, they actually redirect this energy to releasing regular security updates to the stable version.
