Update: July 23, 2019: Three weeks later, July 2019 security update is now rolling out in Kenya. It’s worth noting that the latest update combines security patches for June and July into one. The changelog should be the same as other countries, details of which are covered in the original article that continues below.

Samsung isn’t your best bet when looking for an Android vendor that values timely software updates, but this seems only to be true for major Android OS upgrades.

As far as monthly security patches are concerned, Samsung is one of the best out there. Of course, Google is unbeatable, but considering the sheer number of devices Samsung has to prepare software updates for, the Korean company is definitely doing a great job.

Case in point is the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. The two are already receiving the latest updates to July 2019 security patches. Yea, you read that right bro!

The updates are not available in Kenya yet, but we expect both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ to get them later this month. So far, those in Europe already got the nod. When the OTA arrives, look out for software version G950FXXU5DSFB for the S8 and G955FXXU5DSFB for the S8+.

On top of upgrading the security patch level to July 2019, the update also adds support for scanning QR codes using the camera app. The Galaxy S9 and Note 8 have also received this feature in their latest updates, although, like the S8 update, they have not touched down the Kenyan soil.
