Oppo Find X August security update now rolling out
FacebookTwitterWhatsApp

Oppo Find X is one of the most innovative smartphones yet in Kenya. The device grabbed headlines when it launched with a full-screen design that obsoletes the top bezel with its sliding mechanism to reveal the selfie camera.

Even more interesting is that the Find X not only slides to reveal the front camera, but also the main camera. This leaves the back panel of the device without blemish for the most part, especially since the fingerprint scanner is MIA.

No, the fingerprint scanner isn’t hidden under the display screen like in most recent flagship phones nor is it side-mounted, instead, you get 3D Face ID for authentication purposes. For all these, though, Oppo Find X would set you back nearly Kshs 100,000, which is outrightly insane for a brand that is synonymous with budget devices in the country.

Sure, money isn’t a problem for everyone and if you are among the lucky ones who managed to grab the Oppo Find X and you still have it as your daily driver, you must have already received a new software update installing the latest Android security patch for the month of August 2019.

The software is arriving over the air as version CPH1871EX_11_A.17 and apparently, Oppo Kenya says the update has been available for download since early last week.

For those who have yet to see the OTA, stay patient for it will arrive sooner or later. But if you can’t wait, the full firmware is available for download via the link below, so be sure to grab it and install manually.

Download link

  • Device: Oppo Find X
  • Model No: CPH1871
  • Version: CPH1871EX_11_A.16
  • Android: 8.1
    • Type: Recovery
      • Download: Link

How to install Oppo Find X update manually

Unless your device wont upgrade normally (via OTA), there’s absolutely no major reason to choose a manual software upgrade over OTA updates, but if you are up for the task, well, let’s do this.

  1. After downloading the firmware from the link provided above, save the downloaded file in the root directory of your microSD card.
  2. Insert the above microSD card into your Oppo Find X handset and then power off the phone. No, do not restart the phone.
  3. When still turned off, boot the phone into recovery mode. To do this, press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons at the same time until your phone enters Recovery Mode.
  4. In the Recovery Mode, tap on Install from storage device > Install from SD and find the downloaded file you saved on the microSD card.
  5. Tap on the file in step 4 above and you should see a confirmation message on the screen. Tap Yes and the Find X will reboot and start updating.

The whole process of updating your Oppo Find X manually may take some time, so be sure to exercise some patience while at it.

Happy flashing!
