Huawei is set to launch one of its newer smartphones, the nova 9 SE in Kenya soon.

Ahead of the launch and availability of the device, interested customers can pre-order it at Huawei Experience stores and other participating retail outlets across the country.

Those who pre-order the device will get a free Band 4 wearable.

The device packs a 6.78-inch LCD display panel with 90Hz refresh rate, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G chipset, 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

It has a headlining 108-megapixel camera at the back that is backed by a trio of 8 and 2 megapixel ultra-wide, depth and macro sensors. On the front is a 16-megapixel camera.

It packs a 4,000mAh battery with support for Huawei’s proprietary fast-charging technology, Huawei SuperCharge, available through the 66W charger included in the device’s retail packaging.

As has been the case with Huawei devices over the last few years, the Huawei nova 9 SE is powered by the company’s own custom overlay, EMUI, in its 12th version and based off Android 12 but devoid of Google apps and services, thanks to an ongoing licensing row with the United States government.

Buyers of the device, however, are cushioned by the strides Huawei has made in recent years to grow its own apps ecosystem through the HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) which powers apps and services that are primarily accessible through the Huawei AppGallery, Huawei’s own Google Play Store equivalent, as well as reliance on third-party app stores. See here a list of ways to get apps on Huawei smartphones outside the Play Store.

The Huawei nova 9 SE is priced at Kshs 40,000.

The expected unveiling of the device in the local market follows the release, earlier in the year, of its pricey sibling, the Huawei nova 9.

Huawei has stepped up its game in the Kenyan market lately with even the flagship P series, which had taken a hiatus, making a return.
