As expected, Oppo has taken the wraps off its first foldable smartphone to officially hit the Kenyan market: the Oppo Find N2 Flip.
Not to be confused with the Oppo Find N2, its sister folding device that opens up a different way, much like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 and other devices in that Fold series, the Find N2 Flip will obviously constantly have itself compared to Samsung’s equivalent: the Galaxy Z Flip4.
Not only do the two smartphones appear almost similar in size, they also, at least on principle also operate pretty much the same way. They are flip phones. Like the flip phones of old that dominated the phone market in the 2000s.
The difference, however, comes in a key implementation: the hinge. The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s flesh-in hinge allows it to fold flat and have a much more subtle, barely noticeable crease where it folds. Another key distinguishing feature is the Find N2 Flip’s larger outer screen (or cover screen). At 3.26 inches, it dwarfs the Samsung’s 1.9-inch secondary display. The only disappointment users will encounter here, however, is the much limited use case for that secondary display. You can only use a bunch of widgets and shortcuts and no full-fledged apps.
The similarities between the two devices also extend into the software implementations with Oppo’s FlexForm mode matching Samsung’s FlexCam (formerly called Flex mode) feature. This feature lets the device’s software adapt itself to various use cases, taking advantage of its expansive 6.8-inch main display and the cameras on that display as well as those located on the device’s cover to help with things like selfies and whatnot.
The Oppo Find N2 that’s on sale in Kenya comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. There is also a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset and a 50-megapixel main sensor at the back flanked by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide. On the front is a 32-megapixel selfie cam. Software optimizations for the cameras have been done in collaboration with premium Swedish optical company Hasselblad hence the branding on the lower side of the device’s back next to the Oppo logo.
Other specs include a 4,300mAh battery with 44W SuperVOOC fast charging. Oppo includes a 67W charger in the Find N2 Flip’s retail packaging.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip is going for Kshs 130,000.
The device is also available for purchase under Lipa Pole Pole or trade-in arrangements. Those can be discussed and arranged at Oppo’s customer service at Emperor Plaza, Koinange Street in Nairobi. As usual, we recommend checking with some of our recommended merchants if you’re looking to purchase the device.
