OPPO Kenya is set to introduce the OPPO A57 into the Kenyan market soon, according to a statement from the company.

The OPPO A57 is part of a recent strategy by OPPO to capture market share by providing above board features users really care about like the camera on budget devices.

At the start of 2016, Chinese device maker OPPO, part of the BBK Electronics conglomerate that is taking the world by storm, set out to address an issue that most budget smartphones had, until then, failed to address: quality cameras. Budget smartphones from established global brands as well as budding regional ones had kept on adding bigger batteries, more memory and the like while failing to provide users with quality cameras both at the front and the back of those devices.

OPPO’s efforts to address this with its F series of Android-powered smartphones seem to have born fruit as the brand was able to, overall, increase its smartphone shipments by as much as 109% according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) between 2015 and 2016 all without the presence of a hallowed high-end hero device. Its decision to expand to several new markets outside of its Asian home turf in 2015 to faraway markets like Kenya is also to be credited with its meteoric rise to the top where it has been able to displace the likes of Lenovo and Xiaomi, perennial chart-toppers in the last 3 years.

The OPPO F1 family of camera-centred budget smartphones made it to the Kenyan market last year and if the signs from the company’s local arm are anything to go by then they must have made such an impression for them to be succeeded by yet another camera-focused budget device, the aforementioned OPPO A57.

Unveiled in November last year and already made available in other emerging smartphone markets like India, the OPPO A57 is set to be launched in Kenya this April. Like the OPPO F1s that was made available in the Kenyan market late last year and whose looks it heavily borrows, the OPPO A57 features a superior 16-megapixel selfie camera backed by a 13-megapixel snapper on the device’s rear.

We just hope that OPPO manages to get the pricing of the device right since the competition has already set the pace when it comes to affordable devices touting superior imaging capabilities.

The device will come in Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colour options.
