Huawei to unveil its GR5 2017 smartphone in Kenya this month

Huawei is set to unveil one of its midrange smartphones, the Huawei GR5 2017, in the Kenyan market soon.

According to a statement from the company, the device will be going on sale this February for Kshs 35,000. It will be available through local mobile network operator Safaricom.

Those who pre-order the device from Safaricom will get a free Huawei Fit worth Kshs 12,000. The Huawei Fit is a fitness-focused wearable device that was unveiled in late 2016 alongside the Huawei Mate 9.

Huawei has had in the Kenyan market the first generation GR5 which it introduced early last year. Its successor, the 2017 edition, includes upgrades like a dual-camera setup making it one of the few mid-range devices in the market with dual cameras. Tecno’s Phantom 6 (or 6s if you buy from Safaricom) is the other notable device currently available in the Kenyan market with the feature.

Huawei shipped 139 million smartphones in 2016 and will be hoping that devices like the GR5 (2017) will continue its hold on the top 3 smartphone vendor in the world slot as it closes in on the global leaders, Samsung and Apple.

Here are specifications of the Huawei GR5 (2017).
