Transsion Holdings has finally taken the wraps off the Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro, two phones that come in as immediate successors to the Zero 4 and Zero 4 Plus from 2016.

As you would expect, there are a few similarities between the 2016 and 2017 models, but the differences are more pronounced. The all-new Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro are the latest to jump onto the dual-lens camera bandwagon, tagging along support for Portrait Mode and optical zoom, features we’ve become used to seeing in high-end smartphone cameras.

Under the hood, the Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro have quite a good number of similarities, where both have an octa-core processor running the show alongside an impressive 6GB RAM. In fact, the standard and Pro versions of the Zero 5 have only one major difference on the inside – the storage capacity. Where the former has 64GB of storage, the latter rocks a whopping 128GB unit and both can still be expanded using a microSD card.

Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro specs

The Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro have the same 5.98-inch LCD display screen with a 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3 on top and a full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. This is the same package that appeared on the Infinix Zero 4 Plus, but it’s slightly bigger than the 5.5-inch panel used on the standard Zero 4. Running the show is a powerful midrange processor from MediaTek, the Helio P25 octa-core clocked at 2.6GHz and as pointed out, both phones have 6GB of RAM. This is a small shift from what happened with the Zero 4 and Zero 4 Plus, where the two used different hardware specs.

The storage capacity on the Zero 5 might be half that of the Zero 5 Pro, but the presence of a microSD card slot that can handle up to 128GB takes care of this difference. For the software, you get Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with the usually heavily customized XOS 3.0 skin on top, but Infinix says an update to Oreo is on the way, although we don’t know when.

In 2017, we’ve seen smartphone OEMs putting a lot of emphasis on cameras and Infinix is no different. On the Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro, you’ll find a dual-lens setup on the back featuring a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor (primary lens) with an aperture of f/2.0 and a dual-LED flash and a 13MP telephoto sensor (secondary lens) with a smaller f/2.6 aperture and up to 2x optical zoom. The front camera has a 16MP lens that is also accompanied by a LED flash for brighter selfies even when in the dark.

Infinix Zero 5 and Infinix Zero 5 Pro

As expected, both the Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm audio jack, 4G connectivity as well as a USB Type-C port for data transfer and charging. Speaking of charging, the phone has a decent 4350mAh non-removable battery unit that supports fast charging technology.

Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro price and availability

The Infinix Zero 5 and Zero 5 Pro are already selling in Kenya via Jumia. Where the former has a price tag of Ksh 27,000, the latter will set you back Ksh 30,000. You can also take advantage of the ongoing Black Friday 2017 deals, where applying the coupon code BVINFINIX will save you a cool Ksh 1,000 on either phone.
