Early in the year, the Infinix Smart 2 Pro’s heavy discounting on Infinix’s own e-commerce portal, Infinix Mall, had us suspecting that its successor was just around the corner. Almost 4 months later, that successor is here with us.

Infinix is now selling the Infinix Smart 3 Plus, the Smart 2 Pro’s obvious successor, through its online store, Infinix Mall, as well as Infinix brand stores across the country.

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus is joined by the Infinix Smart 3 and, just as was the case with the Smart 2 and Smart 2 Pro, the two devices vary in terms of what they offer their buyers.

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus is the superior device. It has a bigger battery, double the memory and storage space.

Like we have seen before with the Hot 7, this means that it also runs the regular version of Android as compared to the Android Go that powers the Smart 3.

Interestingly, Infinix still managed to sneak in 4G radios to the Smart 3 with the Smart 3 Plus differentiating itself with dual 4G LTE something that is quite commendable.

Dual 4G LTE, as supported by the Infinix Smart 3 Plus, is important because it allows both SIMs to connect to a 4G network and has, for quite some time, been limited to high-end devices. Most implementations usually limit 4G connectivity to one SIM.

Other standout features of the Infinix Smart 3 Plus include the mirror-like design, a waterdrop notch design on the display panel and a triple camera setup on the rear.

The Infinix Smart 3, in contrast, has a dual-camera setup at the back and no notch.

The Smart 3 Plus also comes with something that we have been hearing a lot about over the last few years and which is becoming a constant feature on Infinix devices as well: AI (Artificial Intelligence). It enables the camera’s scene detection to identify faces, scenes, objects and light conditions to optimise photos taken with the triple back cameras as well as, according to Infinix, optimising the front-facing camera for more natural-looking selfies.

AI also comes into play in power management where it comes in handy in guaranteeing the long battery life that Infinix is promising on the Smart 3 Plus.

With the two devices, Infinix says that it is targeting the young among us who may not have much at their disposal, at least financially, but still want to get the best that they can when it comes to their mobile experience.

“Integrating technology and fashion, Infinix stays true to its brand story of creating intelligent stylish gadgets that resonates with the young generation, while cutting costs to ensure affordability to its key target users in emerging markets,” the brand notes in a statement.

The Infinix Smart 3 and Smart 3 Plus are going for Kshs 7,999 and 11,999 respectively.
