A Google Assistant-powered Huawei smart speaker would have launched this September, but…

Huawei has in the past partnered with Google on a number of devices that include the Nexus 6P, one of the most successful products in their love story. But ever since Google went the Pixel way, such partnerships have been MIA, at least that’s what we knew.

If the latest report by The Information is to be believed, though, it appears Google and Huawei had revived this partnership just before the U.S. Entity List thingy happened. Apparently, the two were working on a smart speaker scheduled to arrive this September at the IFA 2019.

Now that Huawei was handed a reprieve, it remains to be seen whether the plan will be back in place, although it looks unlikely.

Google makes its own Assistant speakers, but getting hold of them in some markets can be a hurdle. Given Huawei’s presence in virtually all parts of the globe, it would have been an easier way for Google to spread its Assistant love to more homes globally.
