Blogger Android app rises from the dead with first update in over 3 years

To many people, Blogger, the blogging platform that Google acquired over a decade and a half ago when it bought the Ev Williams-led Pyra Labs, is all but dead.

In fact, it is Ev who has been leading the charge for new reader and writer experiences with a new platform, Medium, which even Google teams, like the Developer and Design ones, have been using for some of their own blogs.

On the mainstream publishing front, platforms like WordPress with superior features long won the race.

So, what is left for Blogger?

We don’t know for sure but the users it still has definitely deserve all the love and attention they can get. Which is why it is interesting to note that one of the tools at their disposal for accessing their blogs while on the go, the Blogger Android application, is being updated for the first time since 2016.

Version 3.0.1 of the Blogger app brings with it a new icon as well as a visual overhaul in the form of Material Design which was making its way to the whole of Android by the time the app received its last update.

Everything else stays in the same place, a bonus for any older users who may not be such fans of having to check what familiar features have shifted to. The move from the dated Ice Cream Sandwich-era Holo design to the Lollipop-era Material Design is already a big change by itself for many users to keep up. Those, like yours truly, that like living on the edge of technology and are always ready for anything new already moved on so it is a matter of pleasing the holdouts.

Do you still use Blogger or visit blogs hosted on the platform?
