If you are in the market for a 5G smartphone at a fair price, a new option just popped up: the Nokia X10.

The Nokia X10, which was unveiled back in April, is part of the X series, the pinnacle of Nokia smartphones this year and, probably, the near future.

At just Kshs 35,000, the Nokia X10 becomes one of the fairly-priced 5G smartphones available for purchase in the country, alongside the Redmi Note 10 5G from Xiaomi.

In the Nokia family, it joins the Nokia 8.3 5G which has been supported on Safaricom’s 5G network since launch.

According to the telecommunications company, which runs the pioneer 5G network in the country, uptake of 4G and 5G devices in the country is at a paltry 20% with a majority of those devices obviously being 4G ones. The 5G network is still being trialled and is only available in a handful of major towns in the country with plans of it being rolled out to more already underway.

5G allows users to do things must faster, up to 20 times faster than when using 4G at average speeds for things like file sharing, something users of the Nokia X10 may likely to be doing often given the device’s 48-megapixel camera which is backed up by a trio featuring a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter, a 2-megapixel macro lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Zeiss optics are also built in. As is Ozo audio for when one is recording.

Other features of the device include an “edge-to-edge” 6.67-inch Full HD+ display that is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3, a Snapdragon 480 chipset from Qualcomm, a 4,470mAh battery (with an 18W “fast charger”), a choice of either 4 or 6 gigabytes of memory and 64 or 128 gigabytes of internal storage (expandable).

Locally, only the 6GB RAM variant is being offered.

The device runs on Android 11 and comes with HMD Global’s standing promise of at least 3 years of guaranteed updates.

The device is available in Forest (green-ish) and Snow (white-ish) colours.

It can be bought at Samsung brand stores, Anisuma, Mobile Hub, and Safaricom shops. Online, it can be bought through Jumia Kenya.
