Loop, NCBA Loop, where do I start?
It’s the one banking product that we have loved on this podcast. All three of us use it, have used it since its launch in 2017 and continue to use. We’ve given it all the free marketing that we could get for it on our online properties and, especially, on this podcast (there’s evidence here and here). You might even be mistaken for thinking we get paid by NCBA to advertise Loop (surprise: we don’t).
Then, new year new me, right? Looks like Loop wanted a new “me”. Whether its customers, like Dickson, Nick and yours truly as well as many others across the country really wanted to see a new Loop is up for debate. What is not up for debate, however, since they have made it very clear, is the fact that NCBA itself wanted to see a new Loop. One that takes them to “the next level”, whatever that may be.
In this episode, we vent our frustrations at the new Loop, share our experiences with the new app and explore the “shoulda coulda” of the update that wreaked havoc one fine Monday morning. Android users couldn’t log on to the app for the better part of that ill-fated Monday, making iOS users feel special for a minute. Given the chaos that is the new Loop app, we wonder if they will keep on feeling special because, as things stand, there’s nothing special anymore about an app that was once very special. A banking product that once stood head and shoulders above the rest. Now, like Gotye, Loop is just somebody that we used to know.
At its launch, CBA, as the bank went by before its merger with NIC Bank that birthed NCBA, had “Unbank Yourself” as the slogan for its Loop product. That was then. Now, it really looks like NCBA is pushing you to go ahead and do just that: unbank yourself but, this time, from themselves and their product.
Since you’ll hear it referenced a lot in the podcast, here’s that epic article from Dickson at Tech-ish.
