Following One UI 5.1 debut at the start of this month with the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the update is now officially trickling down to older Samsung devices, starting with last year’s flagships and a few other high-end ones.

In a statement, Samsung’s EVP and Senior Executive of the Software Office explains that “One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible”.

While the update was expected to eventually roll out to other devices, the quick turnaround time is what the company is committed to establishing as its new standard. There were even reports of a few users receiving the update prior to the official unveiling of the Galaxy S23 series.

The eligible smartphones for the One UI 5.1 update at the time of writing this article are as follows:

  • Galaxy S22 series,
  • Galaxy S21 series,
  • Galaxy S21 FE,
  • Galaxy S20 series,
  • Galaxy S20 FE 4G,
  • Galaxy S20 5G,
  • Galaxy Z Flip 4,
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4,
  • Galaxy Z Flip 3, and
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4

As usual, despite the rollout being live, some regions will receive the update before others, therefore do not fret if you have not yet received it. Give it a few more days at least.

One of the interesting additions being introduced by One UI 5.1 is Multi Control, which will enable a closer connection between a few Galaxy Book laptops and Galaxy smartphones. Galaxy devices running One UI 5.1 and above and tablets running One UI 4.1 and above will now be able to share the mouse, keyboard or trackpad of a Galaxy Book laptop to control their phones or tablets.

Further additions and refinements have been made in other areas, including a tighter integration between the Camera and Expert RAW apps, enhanced Photo Remaster and a new dynamic weather widget that will be able to come up with different designs depending on the climate.

Finally, new additions have been made to Modes and Routines which will enable custom wallpapers, ringtones, touch sensitivity and fonts that can personalize specific activities for even more convenience.
