Little, whose ride-hailing services are one of several services that can be found on the Little app developed by Nairobi-based tech company Craft Silicon, has introduced an easy way for its riders to make payments to drivers at the end of their rides by simply tapping their (Visa) prepaid, credit and debit cards to the driver’s smartphone.

This is how it works, according to a statement from Little and its partners:

  1. Once the driver has entered the transaction amount, place your contactless card directly under the driver’s phone, holding it briefly for a successful connection.
  2. Once you have completed the payment, wait for the confirmation, which will be displayed on your Little App.
  3. Confirm the successful payment with the driver.

To make this work, Little has partnered with Absa Bank Kenya and Visa.

“The convenient, fast and secure option leverages Absa’s Mobi Tap app solution which turns a smartphone into a point of sale (POS) allowing customers to simply tap their contactless debit or credit cards on the driver’s Android phone or tablet to make a payment,” a joint statement from the trio says.

“This collaborative effort aims to streamline and expedite the payment process on Little App taxis by allowing drivers to accept card-based payments using an Android smartphone, offering enhanced efficiency for both customers and drivers.”

Drivers and customers can use the feature immediately without the need to do anything else on their end. The only catch is that the driver needs to be using an NFC-enabled smartphone.
