YouTube has today announced YouTube Recap, their own version of Spotify Wrapped, but for videos that you watch on the platform.
“YouTube Recap uniquely highlights interests, deep dives, and moments you explored this year, based on your watch history. You’ll get a set of up to 12 different cards that spotlight your top channels, interests, and even the evolution of your viewing habits, or which personality type you fall into based on the videos you loved to watch,” YouTube says on its blog.
In addition to seeing what you have been watching on YouTube, it will also show the top artists and songs as part of Recap. You will have an option to dive deeper into the top genres, podcasts or even your international music listening on the YouTube Music app.
The media giant says that Recap was made with nine rounds of feedback with over 50 different concept tests. The idea is that they want it to be personalized, and the data gives out personalities. Some of the personalities they came up with include Adventurer, Skill Builder, or Creative Spirit. According to the company, the most common personalities were Sunshiner, Wonder Seeker, and the connecto,r while the Philosopher and Dreamer were the rare personas.

This is a fun way to have an overview of what you were watching on YouTube during a specific period. YouTube is a juggernaut with over 20 billion videos uploaded on the site, over 20 million daily uploads, and has a reported 2.7 billion monthly active users. They have a lot of data from a lot of people, and the data collected can be very interesting if packaged as Recap content.
YouTube Recap will be available starting today to YouTube users in North America and the rest of the world this week. You will be able to find it on the homepage via the You tab, and this will be accessible on your mobile phones and desktop.
