Facebook Lite, as the name insinuates, is a lightweight version of the Facebook application available for Android smartphones. The application has been around for the last two years and was developed out of the need for an application that didn’t take up too much space or eat up a lot of data on users’ devices.
With 1.86 million users, Facebook has virtually users in every corner of the world. Access to the social network through mobile phones remains high and Facebook has to make sure that the Facebook experience for each and every one of those users is as they expect it to be: the best.
According to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg and his number two, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook Lite now has over 200 million users!
“Today we’re sharing that more than 200 million people are using FB Lite – our low bandwidth version of the Facebook app.” Sandberg wrote on Facebook. “FB Lite gives people access to core Facebook experiences like News Feed more quickly and while consuming less data.”
Last year, the company started rolling out Messenger Lite, a stripped down version of its messaging application, Messenger, optimized for older versions of Android devices, little memory phones and low bandwidth markets without compromising the user experience, in a handful of countries – Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela.
You can download Facebook Lite on the Play Store.
