Kenya’s internal security organs have taken their efforts to tackle crime in the country a notch higher by unveiling a new Android application that allows members of the public to report incidences of crime in their localities directly.

The application, which is available on the Google Play Store as NCRC Kenya, is also available on other mobile platforms like Apple’s iOS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.

The application which looks and feels very basic, provides users with the ability to report crime while attaching any additional evidence they feel the police should look into in the form of images, audio or documents. Users can also use the application to provide feedback as well as file inquiries.

A statement from the National Crime Research Centre, which developed the application, lauds it as a “paradigm shift in fighting crime through research by use of pocket technology (mobile phone).”
