Since July (August for Kenyans), Android users have had access to ChatGPT, the sensational generative AI chatbot that has taken the world by storm since its release over a year ago. Now, they can add yet another interesting AI-centered app, Copilot from Microsoft, to their app drawers.
While it can be argued that the Copilot app is similar to the ChatGPT app from Open AI that they already have, the former’s advantage is in availing to its users access to the latest OpenAI GPT-4 model, something they have to pay for on the ChatGPT app (Kshs 3,300 per month as of the time of publication). It also allows users access to the DALL-E 3, a later iteration of the generative model developed by OpenAI that is capable of generating images from textual descriptions. With it, users can also draft text for emails and documents easily.
The Copilot app adds to a number of ChatGPT-powered apps from either Microsoft or its partner OpenAI that users have access to on the Play Store. There’s the aforementioned ChatGPT app as well as the Bing app, which preceded both on the Google app store. Infact, Copilot is as a result of Microsoft’s efforts to keep the Bing app’s experience a little purer by spinning off its chat capabilities to adedicated app even though that app still maintains them.
