By the time 2017 ends, we will be having quite a lot of digital assistants. Not only do we have Google Assistant, which was launched last year, coming to several Android devices this year but also similar assistants from device makers like Samsung and Huawei.
The latter had earlier last month announced that it will be partnering with Amazon to include its digital assistant, Alexa, in the Mate 9 smartphone sold in the United States. It seems that that was not all the Chinese device maker had in mind. It is developing its own voice-powered digital assistant which will be targeted at the Chinese market.
Huawei has faced stiff competition at home in China from other homegrown brands Oppo and Vivo and it will likely be counting on new wonder features to remain competitive.
According to Bloomberg, Huawei is going after similar products from Google, Apple and Amazon albeit at the domestic level. Huawei is said to be keen on keeping its partnerships with Google and Amazon intact outside China.
Huawei’s unmasked digital assistant release plans put it in the same path as rival Samsung. The Korean electronics giant is expected to debut its own voice assistant, codenamed Bixby, soon.
