Safaricom’s Android app updated to include M-PESA services

Safaricom’s mySafaricom app is already over a year old and boasts over 1 million users. Guess which other Safaricom product is now one year old and has over a million users?

Blaze

Safaricom Blaze

The youth-centred platform is celebrating its first year and Safaricom is giving it the birthday it deserves, by bringing it to its app which just recently got updated to include M-PESA as well.

Version 1.2 of the mySafaricom app, which started rolling out last night (I got my update this morning), allows Blaze subscribers to create their plans, access services like Blaze M-PESA, Blaze Bonga etc, check out Blaze bundle offers and Blaze devices.

Blaze subscribers will be automatically switched to the Blaze user interface, with an option to return to the standard version of the app via a shortcut on the main menu.

Previously, Blaze users had to make do with the short code*555# and a mobile web interface to enrol to the service, purchase bundles and create their own plans.

That is not all, though. There are some goodies that Safaricom is throwing the way of subscribers as Blaze marks its first anniversary. A simple shake of your smartphone will reveal any of those goodies. For instance, you could get 630 megabytes of data for Kshs 175 for 24 hours. Or 20 text messages for just Kshs 4. Or 8 minutes of talk time for Kshs 16 valid for a day. These goodies are for every Safaricom subscriber with the application installed, they are not limited to just Blaze subscribers.

For Blaze subscribers, when they shake their smartphone, they will be gifted 100 megabytes of data for each month that they have been on the Blaze platform.

Additionally, Blaze users have access to even more offers that are in line with the product’s usual periodical offers (hourly, daily etc).

Flex

Safaricom Flex

Flex users will find Flex under the services menu. From it, one can buy Flex bundles or buy for others (at the new rates), view their Flex bundle balance and its expiry date as well as stop an existing bundle option from auto-renewing.

Still no M-Shwari

Safaricom’s micro-savings and lending product M-Shwari is still not yet available through the mySafaricom application even with this update.

If you haven’t already downloaded it, the mySafaricom app with this latest update is available on the Google Play Store.
