HMD Global is finally seeding the Android 7.1.1 update to its entry-level smartphone, the Nokia 3.

According to reports surfacing on social media and in the tech press over the last 3 or so days, the device is getting the update in a number of countries in Asia.

HMD Global had promised to update the device to Android Nougat by the end of last month.

Since the Nokia 3 is also available in the country, we’re yet to hear about the update’s availability amongst Kenyan users. If you have a Nokia 3 with you and have received the prompt to download the over 700 megabytes update then hit us up in the comments below or on our contact page.

HMD Global’s other Nokia-branded devices, the Nokia 5 and 6, already run on Android Nougat. The delay in availing the Nougat update on what is perhaps the most exciting entry-level Android smartphone in the Kenyan market has been blamed on its MediaTek processor. Sidenote: chipset makers usually have to update the drivers of their processors to be in line with the demands of a new operating system/version.

All Nokia smartphones are set to be upgraded to Android 8.0, Oreo, soon.
