Xiaomi recently sent out invites to those who are willing to take part in Android Oreo beta testing for the Android One Xiaomi Mi A1 phone.
While the latest update has nothing to do with Android Oreo, it’s an equally important update for those using the Xiaomi Mi A1. Equipped with December’s Android security patch, the update also brings a bunch of bug fixes as well as system stability and performance enhancements.
Being a monthly security patch, the update isn’t so big, weighing about 150MB. With this in mind, don’t expect any sudden changes to the interface or new features after installing the new software. This doesn’t mean it’s less important, especially because it’s meant to seal any security holes that may be exploited by hackers and malicious users. Hackers are always looking for ways to exploit your device and to counter them, Google is always rolling out monthly updates to fix any discovered loophole.
The Xiaomi Mi A1 is getting December’s Android security patch the same week as the Google Pixels and Nexuses, which is precisely what it means to own an Android One device. While the story might not be the same when it comes to receiving major OS upgrades, it’s certainly a welcome idea to be at the forefront when it comes to getting monthly security updates.
Since the rollout has just started, it might take some time before all Xiaomi Mi A1 Android One devices get the OTA notification. If you can’t wait, you are welcome to try a manual update via the Settings menu, but do make sure you have enough data bundles or get a stable Wi-Fi connection.
