10 budget smartphones that are slightly discounted as part of Safaricom’s Mother’s Day 2018 sale

Mother’s Day is upon us and as usual, one of the best ways to remember and appreciate our mothers and other motherly figures in our lives is, of course, buying them something small, to use common Kenyan parlance.

As such, various companies and brands have lots of offers and discounts throughout this Mother’s Day weekend.

While we are not so sure what else Safaricom has up its sleeve for Mother’s Day, their smartphone offers for that particular occasion have been live for a couple of days. They may not guarantee huge savings but it’s always nice to save any coin that you can. One more thing: some of the devices on the list are pretty old which is probably why they are on sale anyway. In fact, most are not strange to our lists here at Android Kenya as they’ve featured previously in highlights on Safaricom Open Day and end month offers.

Here they are:

Note: all the devices highlighted here that cost more than Kshs 9,000, with the exception of the Lenovo A2020, can connect to 4G LTE networks, unless otherwise stated. They are also single-SIM devices.

1. Huawei Y3II

 

Specs overview: 4.5-inch WVGA display, a MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 5-megapixel camera at the back, 2-megapixel camera on the front, 2,100mAh battery.

Price: Kshs 7,499

2. Lenovo A 2016

Specs overview: 4.5-inch FWVGA display, quad-core MediaTek MT6735 clocked at 1GHz, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage (expandable up to 32GB), Android Marshmallow, 5 and 2-megapixel cameras at the back and on the front respectively, a 2,000mAh battery unit, a G-sensor and Bluetooth 4.0.

Price: Kshs 7,899

3. Alcatel Pixi 4

Specs overview: 5-inch FWVGA display, quad-core MediaTek MT6735M, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage (expandable up to 32GB), Android Marshmallow, 8 and 5-megapixel cameras at the back and on the front respectively, a removable 2,000mAh battery unit and Bluetooth 4.0.

Price: Kshs 7,999

4. Lenovo A2020

Specs overview: 5-inch WVGA display, Snapdragon 210, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, Android 5.1 Lollipop (LOL), 5MP camera (2MP for selfies) and a 2,300mAh battery.

Price: Kshs 9,999

5. Huawei Y3 2017

Specs overview: It packs a 5-inch display 854 x 480 (FWVGA) pixel display, a quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor, an 8-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel selfie shooter, 1GB RAM, 8 gigabytes of onboard storage, a 2,200mAh battery unit, 4G and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s custom Emotion user interface (version 4.1) layered on top.

Price: Kshs 9,499

6. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Plus

Specs overview: 5-inch qHD display, quad-core MediaTek MT6737T processor, an 8-megapixel camera at the back and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, Bluetooth 4.2, USB OTG, a 2,600mAh battery unit and Android 6.0, Marshmallow.

Price: Kshs 10,999

7. Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Pro

Specs overview: 5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, 2,600mAh battery, 8-megapixel camera at the back and 5-megapixel camera on the front plus support for Samsung’s Gear wearables.

Price: Kshs 11,999

8. Huawei Y6 2017

Specs overview: 5-inch HD display, a MediaTek MT6737T processor, a 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 5-megapixel camera for selfies on the front, 2GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage (expandable via microSD), 4G and a 3,000mAh battery unit.

Price: Kshs 12,999 (a Kshs 1,000 drop from the last time we featured it as being on offer at Safaricom shops).

9. Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016)

 

Specs overview: a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, 1.5GB RAM, 8GB onboard storage, an 8MP main camera, a 5MP selfie camera, Android 6.0 and a 2,600mAh battery.

Price: Kshs 13,499 (not as big a discount as we saw last year)

10. Huawei GR3 2017

Specs overview: 5.2-inch Full HD display, Kirin 655 processor, 12-megapixel camera at the back, 8-megapixel camera on the front, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage. Running Android Nougat.

Price: Kshs 17,999
