Given how AnTuTu’s best performance smartphones ranking works, it takes a while for newly-launched devices to make it there.
That happens to be the case with the Asus smartphone that trades under the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand, the company’s own gaming devices lineup. The phone, which was launched 4 months ago during the annual ICT trade show, Computex, is now the best performance smartphone as per benchmark platform AnTuTu’s latest rankings.
The Asus ROG unseats the Mi Black Shark, Chinese device maker Xiaomi’s own take on the dedicated gaming smartphone concept.
Packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset that can also be found in most other smartphones released this year, the Asus ROG’s cling to fame and the source of its beastly showing when it comes to performance boils down to some of is integrated features like the vapour cooling and the software optimizations responsible for X Mode, the feature that, when triggered, kicks in to boost the device’s performance by shutting down unnecessary background processes to prioritize whatever one is doing as well as kick in the additional accessory fan.
While the top ten list below is mainly dominated by devices packing the Snapdragon 845, we expect the tide to change as Huawei’s new smartphones, powered by the Kirin 980, hit the market.
