Google announced Android 17 a week ago, and the update is already rolling out in phases, starting with supported Google Pixel devices before expanding to other Android manufacturers through their custom software skins.
As with previous Android releases, Pixel phones are the first to receive the stable build, while Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, HONOR, vivo and realme devices will follow based on their update cycles and software support commitments.

What To Expect From Android 17
Android 17 is not a radical redesign, but a refinement-focused release that improves how Android works across phones, tablets and foldables.
One of the biggest upgrades is multitasking enhancements, especially through floating app bubbles that now work more consistently across apps. This is particularly important for foldable devices and large-screen phones, where Google is pushing Android closer to desktop-like productivity.
Privacy and security have also been strengthened, with tighter controls around app permissions, improved device protection features and better background activity management. Users will have more granular control over what apps can access, and for how long.
Google is also doubling down on AI-powered Android experiences, improving system-level intelligence for tasks like text input, suggestions and contextual actions. While some AI features may roll out later, Android 17 lays the groundwork for deeper integration across the ecosystem.
On the design side, Android 17 brings smoother visual transitions and more consistent interface behavior across devices, especially for tablets and foldables where fragmentation has historically been an issue.
For users in Kenya, rollout timing will still depend heavily on device brand, model tier and regional carrier approvals. Pixel devices will get Android 17 first, followed by flagship Samsung, Xiaomi and OnePlus models, while mid-range and budget devices will receive updates later in the cycle.
