The latest iOS 27 beta 2 has fixed an annoying thing between Android and iOS users via RCS messaging.
According to posts on Twitter, the new update has introduced native support for inline threaded replies in RCS chats. This is particularly important when you are having chats and need to reply to a specific conversation. It has been an annoyance for some time, and it is great that Apple has fixed that with this update.
In addition, they have fixed emoji and photoemoji reactions in RCS conversations. Previously, Android users would receive a text description of an emoji reaction instead of the emoji itself, which was clunky. With the latest update, Android users will be able to receive the correct emoji reaction.
This update follows the news that last month, Google and Apple rolled out end-to-end encryption for RCS. This started with iPhone users running iOS 26.5 with supported carriers and Android users on the latest version of Google Messages.
Will this new update make people between Android and iOS communicate more? We will have to wait and see about that. In Kenya, RCS has a shoddy implementation between the carriers, and this update will be better appreciated by people from other countries. In countries like Kenya, where WhatsApp is dominant, this will be largely ignored, and most non-WhatsApp texts will default to plain SMS.
