Update [June 02, 2019]: The Galaxy J4+ in Kenya is now receiving the update to Android 9 Pie with One UI. The software has version J415FXXU2BSDM and also includes April 2019 security patches. The rest of the changelog is similar to the standard J4, as captured in the original post below.
Samsung promised to update the Galaxy J4 to Android Pie-based One UI in April 2019. Although several weeks late, the update is finally rolling out here in Kenya.
To be fair, the first Galaxy J4 units received the update to Pie last month, but since the rollout is usually staggered, the Kenyan variant had to wait until today.
Samsung has already updated the official software support page for the device to reflect the latest changes. The firmware is arriving over the air as version J400FXXU3BSDD and besides the new One UI, you also get April 2019 security patch on top.
As part of the One UI, Galaxy J4 users will enjoy new features such as Night mode, gestures for navigation, reorganized menus for easier access to settings, the Gallery now has a Recycle bin, and so on.
The screengrabs below have the full changelog of the update as provided by Samsung, but note that you’ll need a stable Wi-Fi connection to download this software. Also, since it’s an OTA update, it may take several days before all J4 units receive the download notification.
