Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e in Kenya can now download and install a new software update for the tablet, the third it is receiving since making its way into the country several weeks ago.
The latest version for the Tab S5e isn’t the most recent security patch available from Samsung. But the fact that it bumps the patch level from April to June 2019 is a welcome idea. Even better is that it improves camera stability, something that has been a mainstay in the changelog ever since.
Changelogs aside, here’s what folks at SamMobile uncovered after taking the updated Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e for a ride. This happened a couple of weeks ago, which is when the update first arrived.
It carries software version T725XXU1ASG3 and apparently, it activates Bixby Voice on the Tab S5e. Yes, the device comes with support for this feature, but it’s not enabled out of the box. After installing the new update, a “Power key for Bixby” toggle will appear in the notification shade when you long-press the power button.
This toggle is also buried into Advanced features menu in the Settings app. Find it and set it up and you can even add a shortcut to Bixby Voice on your tablet’s home screen. Using ‘Hi, Bixby’ to summon Bixby Voice is also still an option.
Given that Kenya has the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S5e, the ASG3 build also tags along support for call and message continuity. This means that you’ll be able to take with you all calls and messages to other devices that also support the feature as long as the same Samsung account is used to log in.
Since it’s airborne, the latest update may take several days before all Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e units in the country receive the download notification. You can wait or try forcing the update via Settings > Software update > Download and install.
