It’s a new month and that means one thing for some of us: all those subscriptions are due. Yeah, bills. No one likes them.

For those that haven’t been in the Safaricom Home Fibre fold, however, and are looking for some half-decent fixed home internet solution then there may be some incentive to join the fray.

Safaricom has announced today that it is running a promotion that will see those that sign up for its home internet service enjoy a 50% discount for up to 2 months.

“New customers will automatically qualify for the offer once they dial *400# and choose “Get Safaricom Home Fibre”. The Bronze package will entitle customers to a one month half-price offer while new customers on the Silver, Gold, and Diamond packages will enjoy two months at the 50 percent off pricing,” a statement from the company sent earlier in the day reads in part.

Through this, as well as the accompanying laying of infrastructure in more areas, should see the company achieve its target of reaching 15,000 more homes to add to the 300,000 it already reaches across.

If things go according to plan, that will see Safaricom catch up to its closest competitor in the market, Wananchi Group (Zuku).

According to statistics from the industry regulator, the Communications Authority of Kenya, Safaricom had a 31.5% share of the fixed broadband subscriptions in the country as of March 2019, just over 4 percentage points from Wananchi Group and over double the market share of its next competitor, Jamii Telecommunications (JTL).

This is not the first time we are seeing this kind of incentivization from Safaricom with regards to Home Fibre. Four months ago, the company teamed up with Showmax to offer its subscribers vouchers that allowed them to access content on the streaming video-on-demand service for free for a month.
