That new generation Tecno Spark smartphone we were talking about the other day? It’s finally here.
The Tecno Spark 4 is available for purchase at Tecno brand shops across the country for a retail price of Kshs 11,999.
The fourth-generation member of Tecno’s entry-level smartphone series entered the market on the same day as the latest devices from Tecno’s camera-centric Camon lineup. The cheapest member of the Tecno Camon 12 family, the Camon 12 Air, costs just Kshs 1,500 more. That, in itself, makes for some interesting soul-searching for anyone out to get either of the two devices.
The Tecno Spark 4 will be joined by its own Air variant in the local market at a later date and it will go for Kshs 9,999.
That also implies that the Spark 4 will be the main variant on offer this time round (there was a Pro model in the last generation). As such, users of the last generation’s Pro model may not be tempted to make the jump to the new Spark given that a lot of the features that could justify the same remain unchanged on the new device.
Even better, the Spark 3 Pro is almost* guaranteed an upgrade to Android 10 in coming months since it was one of the devices that were enrolled in the beta. Given how long it has taken Tecno to address issues with that device’s beta build, however, the wait may be long.
For those that missed out on last generation’s devices and are still holding onto their Spark 2s, the Spark 4 is a tempting upgrade. The same should be the feeling for those keen on moving up the ladder from Tecno’s barebones entry-level F series devices which run on Android Go.
