With a substantial number of people around the world resigned to working, learning and conducting many of their affairs from home thanks to the disruption brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are also seeing more and more services rush to capitalize on the same and make it convenient for users.
One such service is the online learning platform MasterClass.
As its name suggests, MasterClass offers online classes much in the same way that one would follow classes they enrol for on platforms like Udemy. However, its primary focus is streaming everything to learners wherever they are as taught by its very famous group of tutors – masters, duh.
Instead of going back to watching past episodes of Hell’s Kitchen, why not have chef Gordon Ramsay himself teach you how to do it? Or get Martin Scorsese to teach you filmmaking instead of spending all day consuming what he has created? Heck, Neil deGrasse Tyson could take you through your next science project if learning the science of beats as taught by Timbaland isn’t your cup of coffee.
Now all these possibilities are available from your living room with the arrival of the MasterClass application on the Android TV platform.
The app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store on compatible Android TV-powered television sets, set-top boxes and media streamers.
Unfortunately, it appears to not be accessible from Kenya. I managed to get it installed on my NVIDIA Shield TV but only after roping in the help of my trusted VPN service.
For the almost Kshs 20,000 that one needs to access the star-studded tutor lineup and exclusive learning material for a year (oh, and that’s on a deal, by the way), between being frustrated by that discovery and deciding what’s next, you’ll probably have made your mind to continue enjoying the rest of the hassle-free learning materials you can access during these stay-at-home moments.
