Fancy sitting on a couch somewhere in your house and just have the TV across the room speak to you alone? Well, that day is almost here.
Google is expanding the availability of Fast Pair to Google TVs. As we have previously explored in greater detail, Google TV is the natural evolution of Android TV. Fast Pair is…
What is Fast Pair?
Wait, have you used wireless (Bluetooth) earphones or headphones on your Android smartphone or tablet recently? Do you get a pop-up either at the top or at the bottom instantly recognizing your earphones or headphones and prompting you to connect to them? That’s Fast Pair.
Fast Pair is the name Google has given its service that uses Bluetooth to scan nearby Bluetooth devices using the proximity sensor on an Android device and the device’s location broadcasting ability. When the Bluetooth devices come within the vicinity of the Android device, the device subsequently shows their name and, where possible, a photo with a prompt to connect to them instantly.
Now, how about the same pop as the one described/demonstrated above showing up on your TV when you have your earphones or headphones out? That’s exactly what’s happening soon.
Fast Pair support is coming to the Chromecast (with Google TV) next month (February 2024) and more Google TV devices (actual television sets, streaming boxes and streaming sticks) throughout the year. Look out for it.
