Samsung knocking it off the park with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 which is doing extremely well in the European market. With the Galaxy S22 series being a few months away and the Galaxy S21 already retailing at around Kshs 87,000, that means that the upcoming Galaxy S21 FE will face a tremendous challenge trying to find a gap in an already saturated market.
The Galaxy FE (Fan Edition) phones form part of the Galaxy S series but are normally the less expensive variant, trading a few bells and whistles for a more affordable price.
Samsung will most likely find it difficult to price the model correctly this year as an aggressive price could make it an instant hit but at the cost of the more expensive devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 while at the same time creating unnecessary competition for lower-priced handsets like the Galaxy A72.
Leaked Galaxy S21 FE (5G) user manual
With the release of the device just around the corner, Samsung fansite Sammobile has obtained the user manual for the Galaxy S21 FE (5G) and they claim that the leaked user manual has no mention of a microSD card slot, adding to the things manufacturers are dropping in their non-stop pursuit of cutting production costs.
The user manual, however, sheds more details about other features such as an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (up to 1.5 meters and up to 30 minutes), an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, a high refresh rate screen, and a design similar to the original Galaxy S21 flagships. One difference with the original Galaxy S21 flagships is that the Galaxy S21 FE will have a plastic housing rather than the more premium metal one.
For more technical details, we will sadly have to wait a bit longer, as user manuals generally do not delve into the nitty-gritty.
Despite this, the leaked user manual made it clear that the Galaxy S21 FE’s triple-camera setup has an ultrawide camera. Moreover, the phone will be available at launch in at least four colours: black, green, purple, and white.
The Galaxy S21 FE will also feature Dolby Atmos for those who crave a more premium sound, Wireless DeX, Samsung Pay, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.
Sigh, another phone release without a charger
Just as I feared, phones being released without chargers are becoming a thing, something I ultimately abhor with passion. Samsung, however, seems unmoved by the recent outcry and will be releasing the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE without a charger. Users will have to buy one separately from third party dealers if they do not already have a USB charger.
To further compound the misery, the phone also lacks a 3.5 mm headphone jack, so you’ll have to depend on USB Type-C headphones, a USB Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter or Bluetooth for using headphones.
Earlier rumours had suggested that the Galaxy S21 FE would use a Snapdragon 888 processor in some markets, while the Exynos 2100 chip will be used in others. It is worth noting that the Exynos 2100 is less powerful than the Snapdragon 888 processor.
The phone could also feature 6 GB/ 8 GB RAM and 128 GB/ 256 GB internal storage. The battery capacity is rated at 4500mAH, with support for 25W fast charging.
