The Tecno Camon 18 series has officially seen the light of day with the unveiling of the Camon 18 Premier in Nigeria.
As we had expected, the device arrives powered by the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset and its 6.7-inch AMOLED display panel has a 120Hz refresh rate, the most we have seen on a Tecno smartphone so far and a first for the Camon series.
There is a 64-megapixel main image sensor, a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultrawide. On the front is a 32-megapixel camera.
Users of the Camon 18 Premier’s snappers can expect the same coterie of features (night portrait video mode, portrait video bokeh mode, a special super night mode, etc) that they have been treated to on past Tecno Camon devices, albeit with the notable improvements that go hand in hand with better optics. A new addition is something we have seen on Infinix’s latest device: a special mode for shooting the moon.
Other features include 8 gigabytes of memory, 256GB internal storage, a 4,750mAh sealed battery unit that juices up fast thanks to the 33W fast-charging we had heard about (and which has been a standard on Tecno devices on the other end of the scale for a while now) and, surprise, NFC!
On the software side, the Tecno Camon 18 Premier runs on version 8 of HiOS, Tecno’s custom Android overlay which is based on Android 11. When will the device get Android 12, which drops soon?
Tecno hasn’t shared with us any details about the Camon 18 series’ availability in the country or the pricing information but we expect to know all of that in a few days’ time as plans for a local launch finalize.
