Streaming service Showmax has added BBC World News and Sky News to its list of live news channels.
This, according to Showmax, is to enable subscribers to follow news on the death of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, and the happenings thereafter including the funeral service set for Monday, September 19th which will be streamed live by the British public broadcaster, the BBC and other UK broadcasters including Sky News.
Showmax subscribers, regardless of their plan, will have access to the BBC World News and Sky News live channels through to September 23rd, days after Queen Elizabeth’s remains have been interred and normal programming resumed.
Showmax debuted live news channels during the pandemic lockdown period, offering live feeds of various international broadcasters, mostly news channels, to its subscribers. It later followed that up with the addition of local live TV channels.
Showmax Pro, Showmax’s premium tier, offers more live channels including the popular live sports channels, allowing users to stream football and other sports live. Several news channels like Africanews, Euronews and Newzroom Afrika are also exclusive to Showmax Pro subscribers.
“From time to time, Showmax makes additional live channels available to subscribers, including Big Brother Naija. In 2021, Showmax streamed the pop-up tribute channel dedicated to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu,” a statement from Showmax reads.
