Oppo Reno6 5G and Reno8 5G receive Android 13 update in Kenya

The Oppo Reno6 5G and the Oppo Reno8 5G are the latest Oppo smartphones to get a bump up to Android 13 in Kenya.

Obviously, the Android 13 upgrade arrives through the ColorOS 13 update.

Oppo announced ColorOS 13 in August last year and has, since September, been releasing it to its devices.

ColorOS 13 brings with it several new feature additions as well as improvements to existing ColorOS features. Top on the list are the features that Google introduced to Android with Android 13. Then there are Oppo-specific features in ColorOS 13 like the new Aquamorphic Design which, as can be seen on my Reno8 5G, brings with it a fresh coat of paint. New wallpapers, new icons, new fonts, new theme colours, new widgets.

There are more privacy and security options like, for instance, there is an automatic pixelation feature that identifies and pixelated profile photos and handles/display names to preserve the privacy of people in chats that have been screenshot, there are more Omoji (Oppo’s emoji) tools, there’s a new type of Always-On Display, there are more markup tools for screenshots among other features.

As is always the case, there are tunings to make sure the devices getting the update are faster and more stable. Heck, even able to squeeze a little more battery juice.

Oppo is upgrading its 4 most recent Reno series devices. These are the Reno8 series devices, the Reno7 series devices, the Reno6 series devices and the Reno5 series devices. The company has offered for purchase various members of the series in Kenya and, as such, users of the devices who are yet to get their ColorOS 13 fix can look forward to the same arriving before the end of the quarter.

The Oppo Reno8 5G was meant to get the update last month, according to Oppo. The Reno7 series, according to Oppo, should also be getting the update right about now but our review unit Reno 7 (4G) is yet to get it. Our fingers are crossed that the update shows up some time this week or the next.

Oppo has promised to support its devices through at least 4 major Android updates.

As of the end of 2022, the Chinese company had already upgraded over 30 smartphones to Android 13.
