Back at the tail end of 2022, Google announced that Reminders would be migrated from the Google Calendar and the Google Assistant to Google Tasks. In a new development, the company says that the process will automatically start next month. However, you can initiate it by yourself now if you want to.
For those using personal Google accounts, which are free, you will get a prompt to migrate on March 6. If you miss the prompt, the tech giant says your reminders will automatically be migrated sometime in Q2 of this year. Once the process is complete, you will be able to create and access Tasks from other Google products including Gmail, Docs, Chat and Calendar.
Workspace customers on the other hand will receive the prompt on April 12, and only if their organization has the Tasks service turned on. If they have the service turned off, Google will start deleting their Reminders from June 22.
Therefore, you will be able to conveniently create reminders from any Google app you are using, instead of leaving the app and heading to your Calendar to set up a reminder as was the case before.
Furthermore, creating reminders with Google Assistant using your voice will also be possible. The created reminders will also show up in Google Tasks alongside those created in other Google Apps like Docs. For more fine-tuning, you will be able to organize your tasks into lists and also highlight those that you want.
One issue that will probably be fixed soon enough is that those reminders created in Keep, Google’s note-taking app are not yet being moved to Tasks, yet they are also not showing up in Google Calendar.
Once the process is completed, Google Tasks will more closely mirror project management apps that are currently in the market. However, they will still have a long way to go before they reach similar levels of other offerings, including adding the ability to search through the tasks you have created and prioritizing them.
