At a recent event dubbed “Google Live from Paris“, Google announced several changes, the star of the show, which had a false start, being Google’s announcement of its ChatGPT competitor, Bard AI.
Hidden in the coverage targeting Google’s ChatGPT rival was a notable update, also “powered by AI” coming to its Lens tool.
One thing that caught our eye was this statement:
“In the coming months, you’ll be able to use Lens to “search your screen” on Android globally. With this technology, you can search what you see in photos or videos across the websites and apps you know and love, like messaging and video apps — without having to leave the app or experience.”
“Say your friend sends you a message with a video of them exploring Paris. If you want to learn more about the landmark you spot in the background, you can simply long-press the power or home button on your Android phone (which invokes your Google Assistant) and then tap “search screen.” Lens identifies it as Luxembourg Palace — and you can click to learn more.”
From the above statements, also shared on Google’s The Keyword blog, it is apparent that universal search via Google Lens is coming to Android devices. This, in effect, makes it easy to look up just about anything visual on one’s screen. For some, that will be looking up objects and people in photos while for others, it will be highlighting as well as looking up text in images easily.
