Samsung’s latest software update, One UI 6 based on Android 14, has landed in Kenya for a wide range of Galaxy devices, but the flagship Galaxy S22 series remains conspicuously absent, at least according to SamMobile’s firmware database. This unexpected exclusion leaves Kenyan S22 owners in the dust, while users of older and less expensive models enjoy the new features and improvements baked in the new OS.
The update bonanza in Kenya has seen flagships like the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra; foldables like the Galaxy Fold 5, Fold 4 and Fold 3; flip phones like the Galaxy Flip 5, Flip 4 and Flip 3; and even mid-range devices like the Galaxy A73 and A53 all receive the Android 14 upgrade. Heck, even the more budget-friendly Galaxy A34 has received the One UI 6 update in the country. Adding to the confusion, the older Galaxy S21 series has also been graced with the update in Kenya, leaving the S22 as the lone high-profile holdout.
This situation is particularly perplexing given that the Galaxy S22 series has already received the One UI 6 update in other regions. This raises questions about why Kenyan users are being left behind. I’d have been quick to speculate carrier-specific delays, but that’s unlikely to be the case given that none of the local variants has bagged the update. It’s also possible this could be related to the gradual rollout often associated with Android software updates, but the fact that the Galaxy S21 series already received the update further adds to the dilemma.
The delayed update for the S22 series casts a shadow over the otherwise positive One UI 6 rollout in Kenya and the globe in general. While it’s understandable that some devices might take longer to receive updates, the S22’s omission, especially in light of older and cheaper models receiving the upgrade, is a significant misstep.
Kenyan Galaxy S22 owners can only hope that Samsung comes to a swift solution and delivers the update soon. Until then, you guys will be left watching as other devices enjoy the latest Android 14 experience. But if it makes you feel any better, the update is also unavailable for the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy A72 and Galaxy A52 in the country despite having started rolling out in other regions.
