Microsoft Teams is coming to the car.
Next month (February), Microsoft is expected to bring Teams, which many, especially corporate types, use for meetings and whatnot, to Android Auto, the app that allows users to mirror their smartphones on the infotainment consoles in their cars thereby removing the need to physically reach out for the phone, something that can be hazardous when driving.
In early May last year at its developer conference, Google announced the arrival of Teams, Zoom and Webex on Android Auto. While the latter two have since made it to Android Auto, for reasons unknown to us and not explained by either Google or Microsoft, Teams hasn’t made it to Android Auto.
What we know at this time is that Microsoft Teams users will be able to join meetings and make calls, from the app’s calendar view.
Of course Teams has lots of other features like (text) chats, screen and file sharing but, given their suitability for a platform like Android Auto, it remains to be seen what other features will be available when Teams lands on Android Auto in February.
We expect that the Teams app that’s on user smartphones is the one that will be updated to show up on the Android Auto app drawer, and not another dedicated app.
