I have some good news for X users who enjoy watching content on the big screen, but only for those with iPhones for the moment. According to reports just coming in, X will soon roll out a Chromecast button for iOS users. This feature, hinted at by code strings discovered last week, allows users to seamlessly cast videos and live streams to Chromecast devices on their Wi-Fi network.
The update brings the Chromecast button right into the media playback menu. According to screenshots shared by some users on social media platform X itself, the button appears alongside familiar options like playback speed, mute, and Picture-in-Picture mode. Interestingly, it seems the Cast button replaces the AirPlay button entirely when a Chromecast-enabled devices is discovered. It’s possible it will dynamically adjust based on detected or currently playing devices on the network. While the exact rollout remains unclear at this point, visual evidence online confirms its presence in the iOS app. However, I still don’t have it on my iPhone with the latest X app v10.40, suggesting it’s still a feature under testing. Or maybe it’s a gradual rollout.
Regardless, this is a significant move for X, as it opens up a wider range of viewing options. Chromecast devices, with their affordability and widespread availability, are a popular choice for casting content from smartphones and laptops to TVs. This integration will undoubtedly enhance the user experience for those who prefer a bigger screen for their X fix.
While iOS users rejoice, the news might sting a bit for Android users. Currently, the Android version of the X app lacks the Chromecast button. It’s likely the functionality will be added in a future update, but for now, Android users are stuck with the existing playback controls like speed, speaker, and PiP. The addition of Chromecast support on iOS is a clear win for X in expanding its reach and catering to different user preferences.
In the meantime, Android users can keep an eye out for future updates and hope to see the Chromecast button join the party. Hopefully, X will provide more information soon regarding Chromecast availability on iOS and Android.
