Update: The issue has now been resolved. My Airtel 5G router is now working as usual, but make sure to restart your unit in order to apply the fix.
Original article follows:
I woke up to a frustrating morning on Wednesday when I found my Airtel 5G router went offline. A quick check on X and I see reports flooding with users sharing their frustrations and demanding answers from the telecommunications giant.
While there’s been no official statement from Airtel Kenya about the root cause, customer care representatives have confirmed that the team is working tirelessly to resolve the issue. However, there’s still no word on how long this outage will last, leaving Kenyans in a state of uncertainty.

As Airtel customers grapple with this internet disruption, I can’t help but point out the stark contrast with Safaricom’s home fiber service. Safaricom has always provided me with data bundles whenever there’s an outage that’s not my fault. When I inquired about this from Airtel Kenya support, I was told no such thing exists. I hope that Airtel Kenya will consider implementing a similar policy in the future.
With the outage starting sometime at midnight, Kenyans are left wondering when their internet connection will be restored. But we will keep you updated with any new developments.
